Man, I seem to be slow updating this blog! Not quite sure why, need to get into the habit of regular updates again…
Anyways, here’s the first video from our trip to Belize. I experimented uploading the exact same file to YouTube, MetaCafe and Soapbox (from Microsoft) and have come away really impressed with Soapbox’s video quality. The only downside is the menu of other videos that appear at the end, but IMO it’s worth it for the big jump in sharpness. I’ve tested across Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari, and Soapbox does seem to work fine in all, which is a relief.
Here’s a link to the Soapbox file on visitBelize.in and for comparison, click here for the same video on YouTube.
I really enjoyed being near the black howler monkeys, and our Cabana #10 at Lamanai Outpost Lodge was the closest to the action. However, I must admit the novelty of the male’s cries wore off pretty quickly the second night it woke us up at 3:00am. But watching the young ones run around the branches eating the fruit was a lot of fun – Elizabeth also had a great solo experience when the mother actually ran alone along the path in front of our cabana, ran up a tree then acted as a lookout, finally giving the signal for her four babies to follow her down the path.
I plan to update this again shortly, in the meantime I have added new Chinese content on visitBelize.cn, visitLondon.cn, Galapagos.cn and visitSingapore.cn – thanks for the translations, Dad!
