server down – going to switch hosting companies

Well, I’ve had it with Site5.com unfortunately. After over 6 years with them, I’m going to move; likely to Hostgator.com since they have fair prices and 24-hour tech support (which I just tested both by live chat and by phone). Sad to move, but for the sake of my sanity and to reduce frustration, not much choice.

Once the servers come back, I’ll post the video updates from the last week…

Disgruntled,
Bryan

Alaskan animal and landscape photos

Hot on the heels of my great impressions of Alaska, I’ve now added more photos featuring Alaskan animals and Alaskan landscapes. Many of these photos are courtesy of the US Government’s various Parks and Wildlife departments, so kudos to them on making the pictures available into the public domain.

Here are the respective links: for the animals visit www.travelphotos.in/united_states/alaska_animals and for the landscapes go to www.travelphotos.in/united_states/alaska_landscapes

I’ve been a bit slow I confess to updating new videos, but I have done some and now have the translations – so I will post more about them tomorrow…

Cheers!
Bryan

new Alaska photos

I’ve been going through some photos on Alaska and I’m actually quite amazed by the diversity. Everyone seems to think of glaciers and icebergs, but the animal life and landscapes in the summer are also beautiful. Here’s the first set, a limited collection of glacier photos: www.travelphotos.in/united_states/alaska_glaciers and www.travelphotos.cn/united_states/alaska_glaciers

new web site designs and Chinese video descriptions

Over the last couple weeks, I’ve been working on new and slightly separate designs for both the Indian and Chinese web sites. Different layouts and different colours too – greenish for India, blueish for China…

I’ve also updated some of the sites with new Chinese video descriptions:

- walking tour on visitLondon.cn
- Ottawa and Vancouver beaches on visitCanada.cn
- Sentosa & Jurong Bird Park on visitSingapore.cn
- adventure travel on Galapagos.cn
- cable cars on visitSanFrancisco.cn

Have a good (long) weekend!

scuba videos from Belize and new travel vids

Okay, I’ve now become a convert to Microsoft’s Soapbox video streaming – the quality is really quite high. Since the last post I’ve edited 2 more videos from Belize, both of which from our scuba diving portion at Turneffe Flats. The first one is from our day trip out to the Blue Hole including Lighthouse Reef; the second one is a compilation of underwater critters from all around the Turneffe Islands (Atoll). Here are the respective links straight to the videos: http://www.visitbelize.in/index.php?cat=269 for English descriptions and http://www.visitbelize.cn/index.php?cat=340 for Chinese descriptions.

This week I also also got back into the groove of posting travel videos, including:

Whew! That’s still barely touching the surface, but there are some great videos to watch there. Tomorrow I’ll be updating the new videos with Chinese translations, and will post which ones I’ve updated. I also want to do a few more videos from Belize covering off the Mayan ruins, reefs and corals of Turneffe and finally our nighttime crocodile encounter…

Black Howler Monkeys video – Soapbox vs. YouTube

Man, I seem to be slow updating this blog! Not quite sure why, need to get into the habit of regular updates again…

Anyways, here’s the first video from our trip to Belize. I experimented uploading the exact same file to YouTube, MetaCafe and Soapbox (from Microsoft) and have come away really impressed with Soapbox’s video quality. The only downside is the menu of other videos that appear at the end, but IMO it’s worth it for the big jump in sharpness. I’ve tested across Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari, and Soapbox does seem to work fine in all, which is a relief.

Here’s a link to the Soapbox file on visitBelize.in and for comparison, click here for the same video on YouTube.

I really enjoyed being near the black howler monkeys, and our Cabana #10 at Lamanai Outpost Lodge was the closest to the action. However, I must admit the novelty of the male’s cries wore off pretty quickly the second night it woke us up at 3:00am. But watching the young ones run around the branches eating the fruit was a lot of fun – Elizabeth also had a great solo experience when the mother actually ran alone along the path in front of our cabana, ran up a tree then acted as a lookout, finally giving the signal for her four babies to follow her down the path.

I plan to update this again shortly, in the meantime I have added new Chinese content on visitBelize.cn, visitLondon.cn, Galapagos.cn and visitSingapore.cn – thanks for the translations, Dad!

back from Belize!

Got back from Belize middle of last week, and have been a bit slow updating this blog. It was a great trip, and I’ll provide more updates including photo and video links later. In the meantime, you can read our adventure blog on both visitBelize.in and visitBelize.cn.

I’ve also updated our photo gallery, including our weeklong stay at Turneffe Flats on Turneffe Island (including our trip to the famous Blue Hole), as well as our 4-day stay at Lamanai Outpost Lodge in Lamanai. Both were very interesting and quite different… The photos are on TravelPhotos.in and TravelPhotos.cn and includes each album excluding Ambergis Caye from another photographer.

Cheers!
Bryan & Elizabeth
