visitEarth server problems fixed (I hope) – new Bryce Canyon photos & other vids

Well, after 5 straight business days with the visitEarth server fluctuating on and off, looks like the problem has been resolved – it’s been running smoothly all day. So here’s what I’ve been up to:

1) added some photos from Bryce Canyon and San Diego, both of which are in the US section on TravelPhotos.in and TravelPhotos.cn
2) added tons of new travel videos, here are some highlights:
- visitKilimanjaro.in (a series following a Canadian couple’s troubles and triumphs summiting Mount Kilimanjaro)
- visitSingapore.in (clip on the largest ferris wheel in Singapore)
- Galapagos.in (interview with Richard Dawkins on Darwin’s theory inspired from the Galapagos Islands)
- GrandCanyon.in (extended video of a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon)
- visitMontreal.in (video tour of the unique Biodome in Montreal)
3) I’m also working on some of the layout on my Indian templates, still not sure what works best – I’m really torn about staying with the darker orange or moving towards a middle green. Will sleep on it.
4) Finally, we leave for Belize in 2 days! We got our H2YO in the mail today, and Elizabeth got a new mask, so we’re all set. Just some packing to do…

I’ll have one more post tomorrow before our departure on Saturday!

a few days of server on and off, visitEarth seems to be okay now

Well, that’s always the trouble when you don’t own your own web server outright I guess; you’re somewhat at the mercy of other people troubleshooting and resolving the situation. The last few days have been and on-again, off-again situation, which is frustrating both from a posting and a tracking point of view. Oh well.

Between the fits and starts, I have been able to get some postings on visitCanada.in, visitLondon.in, visitIndonesia.in, GrandCanyon.in and some cool Canary Islands scuba photos on Underwater.in among others. My favourite so far though is a series (I’ve posted two of three so far) featuring a Canadian couple as they trek up Kilimanjaro – the clips are on visitKilimanjaro.in. And in one week, weather permitting we’ll be diving the Blue Hole in Belize – I’m keeping an adventure blog on visitBelize.in

I hope to have a few productive days of posting along with Chinese translations before we leave on Saturday – then for the following 10 days I’ll only be actively updating the Belize blog. Stay tuned!

travel sites down for part of the day

Well, today was somewhat frustrating; after adding new Chinese descriptions for some of my travel videos over the last week, my sites went down for about 90 minutes. The server seemed to be back online, but then a few hours later it went down again, this time for a longer period of time. What was most annoying was the difficulty in getting an answer as to the issue and estimate time that service would be restored.

Everything seems to be okay now, but we’ll see tomorrow, when I have more Chinese video descriptions to post…

Signing off for today,
Bryan

more Montreal photos, vids from Indonesia, Belize, Thailand, Tanzania

I’m feeling very fuzzy from my trip to the dentist, but wanted to post an update anyways. Put up the final set of photos from Montreal – you can link from TravelPhotos.in and TravelPhotos.cn

Also posted new videos including a land leopard (from the Serengeti) and an underwater leopard (leopard shark from Thailand). Here are the new postings:

visitThailand.in (scuba diving at Ko Haa)
visitBelize.in (profile of a kinkajou sanctuary)
visitIndonesia.in (long-form promotional video)
visitZanzibar.in (scuba diving)
Serengeti.in (leopard video)
Galapagos.in (mostly land animals plus hammerheads)

Now I’m going to wait for the numbness to wear down so I can have some dinner! Tomorrow I’ll be posting many of these same videos with Chinese translations, I’ll update as soon as I can…

Cheers!
Bryan

visit Montreal now live

Launched visitMontreal.in and visitMontreal.cn today, as well as some photos on TravelPhotos.in and TravelPhotos.cn.

Tomorrow is a larger content day where I’ll be adding more history, cultural and demographic information about Montreal. I also rearranged a bit of the Travel Photos, so that the U.S. and Canada now have their own sections.

Somehow it seems like I didn’t get much done today although I sure spent quite a lot of time on the computer! I’ll update more tomorrow…

DailyMotion quality – Tanzania, New York, Galapagos, Mexico, Vietnam

Another busy day looking at videos and posting them. I’ve newly discovered DailyMotion, which I didn’t realize was quite so big in Europe and internationally. The video quality is quite nice, it seems much better than YouTube in fact.

But judge for yourself, here are the new travel clips I’ve posted from Daily Motion – the whale shark video from Galapagos is particularly impressive:

Galapagos.in (whale sharks)
visitTanzania.in (Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater)
visitNewYork.in (journey with Indian friends)
visitMexico.in (Pacific Coast – Acapulco and Guadalajara)
visitVietnam.in (Makong River)

I also posted other videos from the Serengeti, Belize and Moscow, Russia.

Enjoy!

S.F. photos, new videos from Galapagos, NYC, Thailand, Belize and more

Oof, another busy day! Posted additional photos from San Francisco courtesy of the SFCVB and more fantastic videos. I continue to be amazed at how skilled and creative amateur photographers and videographers have become over the years. Here are some highlights:

I also had to post a news article about a turtle that researches tracked swimming from Indonesia to the U.S. – 20,000 kilometres! The post is here: visitIndonesia.cn Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend!

new layout for WordPress blog, new photos & Maasai jumping dance

Another productive couple of days! First off, changed the layout and colour scheme on this WordPress blog – I think it now reads much nicer and more consistent with visitEarth.in and visitEarth.cn.

Due to a request from a co-traveller from our Africa trip last year, I finally got around to reviewing and editing my first Africa video – it’s now posted on visitTanzania.in and visitTanzania.cn. The video features the Maasai doing their jumping dance (adumu) on the way from Ngorongoro Crater to Moshi for the Kilimanjaro Marathon. Time to be disciplined and put together a few more videos now!

And this evening, found some great Singapore photos, now posted on TravelPhotos.in and Travelphotos.cn – I’m really not sure why it took me so long to add them; I’ll be adding a few more tomorrow as well, along with new Chinese postings…

new vids from Galapagos, Grand Canyon, Great Barrier, Red Sea, Mexico and more

Added new videos yesterday from the Galapagos, Great Barrier Reef, Grand Canyon and the Red Sea. Also added vids for Mexico, Belize, Russia and Kilimanjaro. Some really great ones there…

Today I also added new photos for Russia on TravelPhotos.in and TravelPhotos.cn; Russia’s always tricky to categorize as a country – do you put it in the continent of Europe or Asia? You can access the photos directly at:
www.travelphotos.in/europe/russia
and
www.travelphotos.cn/europe/russia.

Enjoy!
